The writing kinda chickens out and goes for a safe railroaded twist, and the last 1/3 of the game is really rushed, but the incredible atmosphere, excellent combat, and really good combat encounters make up for it. Even around the launch window it was tricky to find other players for co-op unless you were gaming with friends.Īs someone who loved the originals, this game really did feel like it captured the feeling of that slick intro cutscene from all those years ago though. but then it turned out to be an FPS experience that felt unlike anything else before or since. The irony of course is that when it was announced as an FPS game, everyone cried out that the last thing we needed was another generic FPS game. The four player co-op agent battles were amazing. It was the best co-op game I've ever played: between the excellent gunplay, really cool vaulting/movement system, and the hacking abilities with their various cooldowns, combat in this game had a real feeling of flow and momentum to it that I haven't seen replicated anywhere else. Bloom was crazy, but the setting and premise meant I could forgive that a little bit (I'll never forget the laptop that could give you a tan though).īut this game was all about the co-op. The SP campaign was pretty good, it had a cool atmosphere that definitely reminded me of the original games. ![]()
